Cladonia Fimbriata: groen bekertjesmos
These three images here above were completely randomly put together, after looking through my archives for some nice orange pictures. But when I looked up the English or Latin name for the type of moss in the picture below Escher, I found a link to this grafic artist, stating that he was fascinated with the green ‘bekermos’ and that he has put it in many of his etchings. Click for an exemple here. I really had no idea… what an incredible coincidence!!

Fijn om te zien, die warme kleuren! En echt super toevallig dat je op Escher stuit, op zoek naar de naam van dat bekermosje, terwijl je ook al een afbeelding van de goede man zelf had geplaatst… bizar.

also enjoyed the link. i have been a fan of Escher’s work ever since a math instructor about 100 years ago, more or less, introduced him in a class. math was never my strength, but i did appreciate Escher. and this new detail about his use of the cup lichen is very interesting!
