The biggest change in life is death…
Funeral Blues
Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.
Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message ‘He is Dead’.
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.
He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.
The stars are not wanted now; put out every one,
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun,
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

Beautiful images and oh what a poem to accompany them.
Weet hier niets op te zeggen, soms is stilte genoeg!
A beautiful marriage. Thank you for the gift if remembering Auden and the gift of your accompanying photo. Gorgeous and thoughtful. Well done.
Powerful poem. And your photos, as always, lovely.
Both great photos–the first one is very powerful.
o Noortje – how sad is that poem, and yet it really does describe how it can be. i remember after my Dad passed away, i couldn’t listen to most music – and i normally love music. everything was just too much.
but time can be a wonderful friend and music has been back in my life for many years.
what beautiful images. thank you for sharing.
Very moving post, Noortje. I hope if you are grieving you are finding solace.
Great clouds shot, Noortje. Hugs.
Beautiful photos.
